Strange Reason Behind US Open Suspension Leaves Players Stranded on Court

The US Open experienced an unexpected delay on Monday when all matches were temporarily suspended due to a fire alarm disrupting the Hawk-Eye system.

Players, including Caroline Wozniacki and Daniil Medvedev, were momentarily stranded on the court during their last-16 matches at Flushing Meadows. The alarm had gone off in the broadcast building, which also houses the team responsible for electronic line calling at the US Open. Unlike Wimbledon, there are no human line judges at the courts in New York.

The building was evacuated, leading to a six-minute suspension of play on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and other courts.

“After confirming that the alarm was false, play resumed. The total interruption lasted six minutes,” a statement from the tournament organizers said.
