U.S. soccer legend Alex Morgan announces her retirement.

Alex Morgan, forward for the United States women's national team, announced her retirement in a social media video on Thursday. She also revealed that she is expecting her second child. Morgan will play one final match on Sunday when San Diego Wave FC hosts the North Carolina Courage.

In a video announcement, Alex Morgan shared, "I have so much clarity about this decision, and I’m thrilled to finally share it with you. It’s been a long journey, and making this choice wasn’t easy. But by early 2024, I knew in my heart and soul that this would be my final season playing soccer."

At 35, Morgan is a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, ranking fifth in USWNT history with 123 goals in 224 appearances. Despite being a key player for the team throughout the spring, she was not included in the USWNT’s 2024 Olympics roster.

Morgan made her debut for the USWNT in 2010 and made an immediate impact by scoring a vital goal in Italy during a FIFA World Cup playoff, securing the U.S. a spot in the 2011 World Cup. She quickly established herself as a starter, teaming up with Abby Wambach to help the U.S. reach the 2011 World Cup final and win the 2012 Olympic gold medal.
